This past friday (September 26, 2014) I got to go the a Pacific Music Festival in Palmira celebrating Petronio Alvarez. It was a very new genre of music for me. It’s usually got lots of percussion, saxophone, clarinet, and a big wooden xylophone. This was one of the songs I remember but there were a real variety, some more folk-sounding, such as the group from Guapi (Grupo Canalon de Timbiqui) or Grupo Bahia and some more modern such as a Grupo mi Raza. I really liked the rhythms and mixture of chorus and instruments. The crowd is either dancing or waving a handkerchief or both, or drinking some alcohol typical of the region. Arrechon, biche, and another I can’t remember.
